My Specialties and Interests

Flower Shadow
Anxiety

Compared to depression, which is the inability to let go of things that happened in the past, anxiety is the worry about things that have not happened yet. There already have been many ways to cope with anxiety, such as distraction, mindfulness, and acceptance. Additionally, I will explore with you the thoughts and emotions underneath the anxiety, which may be an automated set of patterns about how you see the outside world.

Relationship

In my past clinical work, I have found that everyone has their own version of understanding and experiencing relationships. It is as if we are interacting with the outside world with COLORED glasses and end up directing the relationship to this version of interaction with others. Trained for years in Object Relation and Family Systems, I am committed to work with you to wipe clear these colored glasses so you can feel freer to pursue relationships you really want.

Narcissism Issues

Narcissism means that the desire for approval is so strong that it prevents you from really paying attention to others and committing something continuously. Everyone struggles with their narcissism to a greater or lesser extent, and I have listened a great deal of narcissism-related topics in my past clinical work. You might experience feelings of competition, envy, and resentment in a regular basis, which can cause you to sabotage good relationships and disrupt your career. A more holistic view of yourself and others, integrating the good and the bad, and not always who is superior and who is inferior, would be the direction of therapy.

Asian Community

For a long time, the Asian community has avoided seeking mental health treatment because of the stigma surrounding it. My mission is to provide beneficial, unbiased treatment to my community while breaking down the prejudice surrounding this stigma.

My Perspective

I will work with you in an integrative way. My counseling approach is based on two major therapeutic theories, psychodynamic theory and family systems, combined with evidence-supported approaches such as Transference Focused Therapy (TFP), Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), and Structuralist Family Therapy (SFT). I strive to provide you with a safe environment in the hope that you will be free to explore your thoughts, feelings, and desires, gain greater awareness of yourself, and understand what is holding you back so that you can make meaningful changes and be free to pursue the life you want.

  • Psychoanalytic Psychodynamic

  • Attachment Based

  • Systemic Perspective

  • (Transference Focused Psychotherapy)

I work from a psychodynamic psychotherapy perspective, which focuses on the "unconscious mind" and "repetitive cycles of emotional/interpersonal/behavioral/psychological patterns”.  I work under the supervision of a psychoanalyst supervisor XXX.

I work from an attachment theory perspective, which states that people's interpersonal patterns and self-images are influenced by early attachment figures, and reflected in their current life.

I work from a systemic perspective, which pays attention to the important role of culture, social and family factors in a person's childhood and in daily life. I respect multiculturalism, oppose any form of discrimination and recognize the importance of one's cultural identity. I work under the supervision of a systemic family supervisor XXX.

I also work from the perspective of Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP). TFP is an evidence-based therapy that works to improve an individual's personality structure, that is, relationship with oneself and others, and ultimately improve an individual's love and work. Initially the theory was used in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and has since been developed and applied to work with narcissistic personalities as well as other personalities and has shown positive outcomes. Work is usually done twice a week. I have been working under the supervision of TFP founder Dr. Ott Kernberg since 2017.
